We know there are many opinions to choose from when decorating for the holiday season. There are so many choices for fresh evergreen wreaths, centerpieces, and even Christmas garland. Lynch Creek Farm offers a wide-variety of pre-made garland made with fresh evergreens. Our beautiful, handmade garland is ready to hang straight out of the box! Full and fragrant, it’s perfect for the holidays either indoors or outdoors. It adds the perfect touch to any home as well as a burst of Christmas aroma when anyone walks by.

We understand, however, that many people love to make their own decorations. It can be a wonderful family activity to gather and assemble your own greenery and make your own arrangements, including garland. If you’d like to give it a try, we are here to offer some tips. We love the idea of hand making your own beautiful holiday decor.

DIY Holiday Garland

If you're looking to make DIY fresh garland, we've provided you with tips and a tutorial to help you create a Christmas garland worth talking about. Before creating your fresh garland, you need to collect your supplies. There are many ways to source the fresh greens for your holiday garland, including browsing Christmas tree farms or tree lots. Most tree farms have piles of evergreen trimmings that are left from trimming the trees before selling. You can usually get these types of branches for free just by asking. You can also find greenery out in your backyard or in local parks and green spaces. If you don't have a great park in your city, go for a walk in areas outside of your town. It's a great way to get away from the city and find some great fresh greenery, pine cones, or salal for your fresh garland pieces. We also encourage you to check your local grocery or hardware store. You'll be surprised how much you can find there. Check the greenery selection at your local stores to find a wide selection of fresh flowers for your Christmas decorations. Grocery and hardware stores may allow you to buy a variety of their best sellers at a discounted price. Florists can be a source for greens as well. While florists are usually very busy during Christmas creating centerpieces, wreaths, corsages, or other holiday decorations for their clients, they won't be able to utilize every last stem and flower. By checking to see what they're unable to use, you can score some great deals to source your supplies.

What Supplies Can I Use To Create My Fresh Garland?

The best part of creating your own garland is that you can essentially use any supplies you find to create an arrangement. However, regardless of whether you're trying to create a magnolia garland, mixed garland, or cedar garland, you'll still need to start with the same general materials. You will need some type of greenery such as noble fir, douglas fir, salal, white pine, cedar, or Fraser fir. You can also add accent pieces such as silver dollar eucalyptus, ruscus, magnolia, plumosa, seeded eucalyptus garland, or boxwood. The possibilities are endless when you consider the many types of greens available in nature and at the florist. Besides the greenery, you'll need floral wire and heavy-duty scissors to cut your wire. That’s it!

How To Create Your Homemade Christmas Garland

Once you have your supplies ready, follow these simple steps to create the perfect accents for your home. 1. Cut Your Greenery - Cut the greenery you have gathered to the appropriate length, allowing enough length to gather them in bundles later. Lay them out and spritz them with water, especially the cut ends, so they drink up the water to stay fresh. Let them sit for several hours to a day. 2. Create Bundles: Group multiple different types of greenery into a bunch. You can use a variety of greenery or flowers in each bunch. 3. Tie the Bundles: Next, you'll wrap the end of the bundle with wire. Don’t cut the wire. Instead, leave the wire intact. You can also secure the bundle with a large twist tie or a zip tie. Gather another bundle of greenery and overlap it over the first bundle, then wrap the wire (which is still connected to the previous bundle) around the end of this second bundle. 4. Continue Until Finished: You're going to add more bundles of greenery, wrapping the ends with wire, and complete this process down your garland until you come to the desired length. From there, you can either integrate more accents into the fresh garland or finish it. Tie off the end and cut the wire. That’s it! Fresh garland is naturally beautiful and can have a rustic, unfinished look. Hang the finished roping anywhere you’d like a natural, festive touch. You can add bows, ornaments, or other decorations you love. In addition to hanging garland, you can put it on top of mantles and tables as well.
